Are You Chasing Groups or Ghosts?

Are You Chasing Groups or Ghosts? —

John Dudley, of Nock On Archery, recently posted a YouTube video questioning whether viewers were chasing groups or ghosts.

To illustrate his point, Dudley shot six stock Sonic 6mm arrows from a bow that was set up for 5mm arrows.  Although his shots were slightly left of the killzone, the group was consistent; illustrating that consistent shooting (from practice), has more to do with downrange success than a lot of variables that many contemporary archers focus on.

“For any of you who have spent time questioning the degree of helical from an accuracy point of view, you should have been practicing,” Dudley said.  “If you buy a good arrow, .002″ or straighter, that part of the problem should be cured for most people’s ability.”

“Let the arrow stabilize, have the right spine, then get it to turn, regardless of the degree,” Dudley said.

Dudley continues by explaining that the degree of helical can certainly have an effect on a broadhead because of the rotation difference, but once again questions viewers, asking: “did you get out and practice?  Are you chasing groups?  Or are you chasing ghosts?”
