Product Engineering Intern
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Product Engineering Intern supports the product engineering needs of the division. This individual is responsible for supporting cost effective, competitive product design, product specifications, process records and timely product engineering support to the manufacturing and other production support teams.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create engineering drawings and specifications with some supervision from engineers.
Perform product testing and write product test reports.
Test and evaluate product function, performance, durability, and safety characteristics.
Support engineers, sales, manufacturing, purchasing and planning to expedite new products through production.
Support the building of test equipment and tooling as required to effectively test products as required to support the company’s direction.
Generate bills of material, part numbers, item masters and manufacturing routers on the Manage 2000 manufacturing information system.
Generate engineering change requests (ECR’s) and implement changes as required to keep product documentation current with manufacturing practices and customer needs.
Participate in cross-functional teams.
Compare, test and evaluate current and new products recommending future development under the direction of lead engineer.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:
This position requires:
Knowledge of mechanic and ability to set up and perform product tests in a proficient manner.
Good arithmetic and physics skills.
Ability to accurately calculate and record test results and clearly document results.
Knowledge of manufacturing practices including; thermal processing, metal forming, anodizing, machining, grinding, sanding, molding, pultruding, lay-up, painting, silk screening, printing and assembly.
